Pederson Refutes Reports Linking Eagles to Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith

Torrey Smith? Alshon Jeffery?

Not happening, according to Eagles head coach Doug Pederson.

While a couple reports have linked the Eagles to making a trade before the fast-approaching deadline to grab another veteran outside receiver, Pederson shot them down at his Wednesday press conference.

“There’s no legitimacy to that,” Pederson said. “And I’m thrilled with the guys we have and going to work with them every day.”

The Eagles made a trade before the season to acquire Dorial Green-Beckham from the Titans, but the team’s receivers still haven’t been great during the first six games of the 2016 season.

They also went out and claimed Bryce Treggs after the 49ers waived him at final cuts, but the speedy wideout hasn’t yet been active.

Eagles make a couple roster moves ahead of Browns game

So, who stretches the field for the Eagles?

“Nelson (Agholor) can stretch it. Josh (Huff) can stretch it,” Pederson said. “But I think it’s protection, design of the play. When I think of stretching the field, a guy can run fast and that can be stretching the field, but who can really take the top off? I mean, those two guys are two that can do that, and Bryce Treggs.”

Through six games, Agholor has 18 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown. Huff has 12 catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Green-Beckham has 13 for 139 and a touchdown.

Just not a ton of production.

“Well, I think [Huff] was pretty efficient last week,” Pederson said of Huff’s four-catch, 39-yard day. “He caught some nice balls, a couple in the red zone, a couple of bubble slant combinations we do with him. That’s kind of who Josh is. And the kickoff return, obviously. These are things that Josh can do. He’s another one like DGB that you try to find every week, just more opportunities.

“And when you have 22, 23 pass attempts and another 26 running attempts, there’s just not that many plays. We have them in every week, but it’s my job I guess to call them in situations where we can utilize them. I guess that’s just the circumstance of the game.”
