After bolstering the outfield by making Mickey Moniak the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's MLB draft, the Phillies opted for pitching with the top selection in the second round.
The Phils drafted right-hander Kevin Gowdy from Santa Barbara High School in California with the 42nd selection.
