Gov. Corbett Orders Flags at Half-Staff for Paterno

Flags at all state facilities will fly at half-staff until former Penn State coach Joe Paterno is buried, the governor says

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has ordered that all Pennsylvania flags fly at half-staff in honor of former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.

Paterno died Sunday at the age of 85.

Corbett’s order means that all flags in the Capitol Complex and at any commonwealth facility across the state will be at half-staff.

The flags will stay this way until Paterno is buried, Corbett says.

Paterno died after a brief battle with lung cancer. The Hall of Fame coach's death has prompted an outpouring of tributes and remembrances.

Paterno was fired from Penn State in November following the arrest of former longtime assistant Jerry Sandusky on child sex abuse charges. The university's Board of Trustees cited Paterno's failure to report one alleged assault to police as a chief reason for his ouster.
