Pat Shurmur has been on both sides of the Nick Foles ledger.
Shurmur was in the black as the Eagles' offensive coordinator in 2013, watching Foles explode for 27 touchdowns and two interceptions while going 8-2 as a starter after stepping in for Michael Vick.
Last season, in the same role with the Vikings, Shurmur was in the red, and seeing red or green, as Foles went off against Minnesota's league-leading defense to the tune of 352 yards and three touchdowns on 26 of 33 passing. The Eagles won, 38-7, and advanced to the Super Bowl. It was Shurmur's last game with Minnesota.
Shurmur is now the Giants' head coach. And what he saw Foles accomplish as the backup on the road to a Super Bowl MVP came as no shock to him.
"The quarterback piece is obviously very important," Shurmur said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine, "and Carson Wentz had an outstanding year and I was with Nick Foles when he had his very best year. So I wasn't surprised to see that he could lead them the rest of the way."
Shurmur may or may not get a chance to see Foles up close and personal again this season when his Giants take on the Birds twice.

That depends on Wentz's health and whether Foles is traded this offseason. Knowing Foles' track record with and against him, Shurmur likely won't be sad to not see him.
