Ilya Bryzgalov Roasts Flyers' Playoff Goaltending

Welp, that wasn't pretty and an old friend is offering his services.

Brian Elliott's playoff struggles continued Wednesday night as he allowed five goals on 19 shots before being pulled for Petr Mrazek after the Penguins' fifth goal at 9:01 of the second period. The Flyers were down 5-0.

Remember Ilya Bryzgalov (who the Flyers are still paying until 2026-27)?

Of course, we remember Bryzgalov. Usually not for good reasons on the ice. His time as a Flyer was a total disaster, but he was the goalie of record when the Flyers beat the Penguins in six games in 2012.

‘A long ways to go,' accountability and more in takeaways on Tortorella, Briere

As for Elliott, in four playoff games with the Flames last spring, he allowed 12 goals and had a .880 save percentage. Wednesday was his third game back from core muscle surgery.

Last Saturday, in the regular-season finale, Elliott pitched a 17-save shutout as the Flyers clinched their playoff berth. In Game 1 Wednesday, Elliott looked far from a goalie the Flyers can win with.

It was only one game, but the goaltending concerns entering Wednesday certainly weren't eased.

But, hey, if you're in Aston, Pennsylvania, check out Elliott's Restaurant, an American style restaurant with chicken wings and chocolate milk. That comes in both small and regular. Flyers fans are going to need it after this one.
