Keep the Bikes Rollin' and The Toys Flowin'

Each year, tens of thousands of motorcyclists descend on Philadelphia, many covered in tattoos and wearing leather jackets.

Why?

They're riding their bikes to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to deliver toys to children with life-threatening illnesses. The event, known as the "For the Kids Toy Run," is now in its 29th year, and is organized annually by the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education or A.B.A.T.E.

This year, however, the toy run is in jeopardy and needs your support. City services for the day, which include police forces, are expected to cost around $30,000 -- far more than the group can afford.

The city of Philadelphia has paid for these services in the past, and while city officials say they would like to help, the city is now short on money and is unable to cover the expense.

Past participants include former 76ers president Pat Croce, former Philadelphia Flyers Dave Schultz and Bob Kelly, recording artist Meatloaf, and The Honorable Justice Seamus McCaffery of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

You can help keep this tradition alive!  Visit the local chapter's website at delawarevalleyabate.org. You can also go to any branch of PNC Bank to donate money.  Be sure your donations are made to: Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education - Delaware Valley Chapter "For the Kids Toy Run."
