Political Dune Wars in NJ

Christie calls out Dem over shore dunes

Gov. Chris Christie has singled out the former head of the Assembly environment committee over his failure to agree to a storm-stopping dune system at his beachfront home.

Christie on Tuesday said Democratic Assemblyman John McKeon of Essex County is one of 1,100 homeowners who have not signed easements allowing the dune construction project.

Thousands of homes were saved from Superstorm Sandy because they had robust dune systems protecting them from the pounding surf. Many places that didn't suffered catastrophic damage.

Most coastal homeowners want the government to build dunes near their homes, and McKeon says he is one of them.

In a statement, the lawmaker said he'll sign the agreement once the government says where on the Brick Township property it plans to build the dune.
