Pa. Senate Challenger Steps Up for 2012

Republican Marc Scaringi will challenge Democrat Bob Casey

A Central Pa. Republican is counting on a conservative groundswell to send him to Washington.

"I'm pledging myself to be a voice of reason and conservatism in entering this race," says Marc Scaringi. The 41-year-old attorney launched a 2012 Senate campaign on the heels of the conservative backlash that will change the control of Congress in Jan. 2011.

Scaringi, began his political career as a volunteer staffer on Rick Santorum's 1994 Senate campaign. He would go on to work in Santorum's Senate office and later spent several years as a campaign worker and staffer for former Pa. Attorney General Mike Fisher.

In seeking the 2012 Republican Senate nomination, Scaringi wants to challenge Pa. Senator Bob Casey, the Democratic incumbent.  Casey, who is serving his first term in office, becomes the state's senior senator in Jan. 2011.  He defeated two-term Republican Santorum in 2006.

Now, Scaringi says he feels "compelled to re-enter politics on a course of fiscal responsibility." He cites his experience as a business owner, in a law practice with his wife in Newport, Pa., as the basis for his approach to government spending policies.

Scaringi is a supporter of the Tea Party movement.

"Tea Party groups across Pennsylvania -- and the country -- are critical to helping restore our country to principles of our Founding Fathers," said Scaringi. His "Speak Out. Step Out" campaign is designed to be a call to action for conservative supporters.
