Former President Bill Clinton Addresses NAACP Convention in Philadelphia

A day after President Barack Obama made headlines at the NAACP National Convention while calling for an ideological change to America’s criminal justice system, former President Bill Clinton took the stage at the Philadelphia event.

Clinton, the last Democrat in the White House before Obama, addressed the 106th annual convention taking place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center late Wednesday morning, marking one of the final events at the 5-day convention.

“We are thrilled President Bill Clinton will be addressing our final plenary session at this year’s NAACP National Convention,” said NAACP Chairman Roslyn Brock. “President Clinton demonstrated his pragmatic leadership while in the White House. Today, he continues his work as a change-making leader through the Clinton Foundation. As the country is faced with challenges, we look forward to hearing the former President lend his perspective on some of the most important civil rights challenges of our time..."

Clinton's speech followed remarks from New York Gov.. Andrew Cuomo (D).

In his remarks, Clinton addressed his crime bill that helped reduce crime but increase prison populations by locking up minor offenders. He said that the approach was "wrong."
