"Suits" actress Megan Markle took to Twitter Friday to thank supporters following the flood of racial abuse she received after going public with her relationship with Prince Harry.
Markle thanked a few select friends and then supporters at large. She then captioned the tweet with an inspirational quote from Mahatma Gandhi.
Earlier this month Kensington Palace took the nearly unprecedented step of making a public statement regarding the couple after Markle's safety was questioned in light of the backlash.
"Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her," said the statement from Kensington Palace. "It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm."

According to the statement, the harassment Markle received has "been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments."
