An investigation is underway after a woman was found shot to death inside a car in Willingboro Township, New Jersey.
Police were called to Medley Lane around 8:20 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived they found the body of Maribely Lopez, 21, of Lindenwold, inside her vehicle. Investigators say she had been shot to death. No arrests have been made and police haven’t released a description of any suspects.
Thursday night, a SWAT team descended on a home on Marboro Lane, about a block away from where Lopez’s body was found. A source close to the investigation told NBC10 the search was connected to her death. They also searched through neighboring homes for surveillance footage.
Investigators have not yet revealed if they found anything during the search.
“I was shocked with the police coming up to my door and basically asking questions about a car over here,” Bo Bowens, a resident in the neighborhood, said.
One witness told NBC10 she saw the same car Lopez was found dead in on the other side of the street Wednesday but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Lopez’s death comes three weeks after another 21-year-old was found shot to death inside a car in Willingboro.
“I’m hoping they’re not connected,” Terrence Walker, another Willingboro resident, told NBC10. “These things out here, they don’t happen like that.”
