Tire Slashings in New Castle: Police

New Castle City Police are investigating reports of numerous tire slashings that occurred early Friday morning.

The slashings occurred around 1:35 a.m. Friday around West 11th and Juniper streets in New Castle City, Delaware. A resident called the police after observing and attempting to stop three teen boys who were slashing a tire of a New Castle County Police car, investigators said.

Harold Hewett, a resident of New Castle, must replace eight slashed tires between his wife's car and his pickup truck. Harold wished he could have reached the perpetrators with his cane.

"It would have been ugly," he told NBC10.

Ed Poczynek, a resident for 57 years, was furious about the inconvenience that the vandals caused by slashing two of his tires.

"I feel like going out there and knocking the hell out of em in the street with a bat or something," he said.

A K-9 unit was dispatched but tracking was unsuccessful. Police are encouraging neighborhood residents with security cameras to check their footage from around 1:30 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to call New Castle City Police at 302-322-9800
