Police responded to reports of gunfire on a Philadelphia street in the early morning hours of New Year's Day and discovered a teenager had been fatally shot.
Authorities pronounced the 19-year-old man dead at the scene of the shooting, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the 5800 block of North Philip Street, near Grange Avenue, in the city's Olney neighborhood, according to officials.
The teen suffered a gunshot wound to his head, police said.
Investigators, who have yet to release a motive in the shooting or a description of a suspect, recovered more than two dozen shell casings from the scene.
The fatal shooting, which occurred just a few hours after the city rang in 2015, is the first homicide of the year for Philadelphia.
Authorities have yet to identify the victim.
