Police Investigate Death of Elderly New Jersey Woman

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the death of an elderly woman who was found in her southern New Jersey home along with her barely alive husband.

Ocean County prosecutors say 91-year-old Ruth Jacobs and her 96-year-old husband, Arnold, were found around 4:45 p.m. Saturday in their Lacey Township home. They were discovered by concerned relatives who had gone there because they had not been able to contact the couple in recent days.

Ruth Jacobs was unresponsive when police arrived, and she was pronounced dead a short time later. Her husband remained hospitalized Sunday in critical but stable condition.

Authorities haven't been able to speak with Arnold Jacobs due to his medical issues.

The couple's home has been sealed off as as part of the ongoing investigation.
