A 38-year-old mother of two is fighting for her life after a shooting in West Philadelphia.
It happened Thursday night shortly after 9 p.m. at 58th and Master Street, according to police. Investigators say five shots were fired. One of the bullets shattered the rear window of a parked school van. Another bullet struck a woman in her eye as she was walking towards her home along Hobart Street. Police believe the woman was an innocent victim caught in the crossfire.
βWe know that it was a semiautomatic handgun used,β said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. βWe believe she was coming from a mini-market, thatβs what the surveillance footage showed us.β
The woman was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she remains in critical condition. Police say they have one witness and they are currently reviewing surveillance video of the incident.
βWe have some video footage of three males seen fleeing the scene,β said Chief Inspector Small. βOne was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt.β
