Fixed Pricing on Pennsylvania Liquor, Wine Ending

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is inching even closer to acting like a private sector business as recently passed changes to the state's liquor laws take effect across the Commonwealth.

Prior to the legislative change, the PLCB was required to use a 30 percent markup on its products. The publicly known rate had been in effect since 1993.

Now the PLCB can better negotiate the wholesale purchase price for the bottles on its shelves, and if it secures a reduction in cost, it can keep the difference instead of turning it over to the state, the Inquirer reports.
