University Of the Arts To Merge With Philadelphia Art Alliance

Following unanimous votes from both boards of trustees, the agreement was finalized on Aug. 28 and brings a new name for the 102-year-old exhibition space and arts center — the Philadelphia Art Alliance at the University of the Arts.

The Philadelphia Art Alliance will merge with the University of the Arts, the two organizations announced Monday.

Following unanimous votes from both boards of trustees, the agreement was finalized on Aug. 28 and brings a new name for the 102-year-old exhibition space and arts center — the Philadelphia Art Alliance at the University of the Arts.

The Alliance will fall under the leadership of 140-year-old UArts as part of the deal, which must be approved by the state through a nonprofit organization merger process. Paperwork to begin the approval process, expected to last several months, was filed Sept. 4, the organizations said.

“This coming together of two of Philadelphia’s most historic and innovative arts institutions offers a rare opportunity to preserve and celebrate that extraordinary history while creating a future that envisions even more exciting possibilities across a wide range of art forms," UArts President and CEO David Yager said in a statement.
