The parents of a northern New Jersey toddler who allegedly was beaten to death have been indicted on murder and child endangerment charges.
A Union County grand jury returned the indictment against Jorge Orozco and Raquel Ramirez on Friday. But it was not made public until Saturday.
Prosecutors say the charges against the 30-year-old Elizabeth residents stem from the February death of their 2-year-old daughter, Dayana. Both are accused of causing the injuries that led to her death.
The toddler was found unresponsive in her family's apartment and was pronounced dead there a short time later. An autopsy determined she died from blunt-force trauma and her death was ruled a homicide.
It was not known Saturday if either Orozco or Ramirez have retained attorneys.
