About 500 students at an elementary school in the Frankford section of the city were evacuated Thursday morning just before 9 due to a hazmat situation, according to a school district spokesman.
It happened at the James J. Sullivan Elementary School on 5300 Ditman Street. The spokesman told NBC10 the students were evacuated after an unknown odor was detected inside the building.
Police also say unknown fumes were seen coming from the school. The students were taken to nearby Harding Middle School as authorities investigated.
As of 11:25 a.m., the situation was cleared, students returned and classes resumed at the school, police said.
There were no reports of any injuries or illnesses.
It wasn't clear what caused the odor.
