A pothole caused traffic headaches Tuesday for commuters using the southbound Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Crews rushed to the scene -- near mile marker 24.8 a few miles north of the Mid-County Interchange -- around 8 a.m.
Chopper10 captured crews working with a jackhammer on I-476 -- near where it crosses over N Wales Road in Whitpain Township.
The left lane was closed for the repairs. Hours later about a three-mile backup remained leading up to the Lansdale Interchange as drivers bailed out before the work zone.
Highway officials tell NBC10 that they hope to have the road repaired by the afternoon rush but that didn't happen. As of 6 p.m. the left lane remained closed as crews waited for repair materials to strengthen enough to reopen the overpass, officials said.
With only the right lane getting by, traffic backed up nearly four miles as of 6 p.m., according to a turnpike spokesperson.
