No End to Teen Curfew

Mayor Michael Nutter made the announcement that city will continue to enforce the teen curfew put in place on August 8.

“In August, our City’s law enforcement agencies, justice system, community partners and residents responded overwhelmingly to the call to keep our city free from random violent attacks,” said Mayor Nutter in a press release. “Under the temporary curfew, there were no further incidents. As we begin a new school year, it is important for our city’s students to remain safe, study hard and to adjust to their new schedules.”

Minors unaccompainied by a legal guardian must be off the streets by 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10:30 p.m. for teens 13 and older on weekdays, 9 p.m. for minors 12 and under.

Minors caught breaking curfew will be picked up and either dropped off at home or brought to the police station where their parents will be contacted.

Parents of minors who break curfew more than once will be fined up to $500 for each violation.

The curfew is the result of random attacks made by mobs of teens in Center and University Cities.
