A Jersey Shore restaurant owner and former county sheriff's officer was sentenced to 12 years in state prison after admitting to shooting his general manager in the parking lot of his business in June 2013.
Louis Cataldo, of Point Pleasant, pleaded guilty in May to shooting Nicole Griffin in the parking lot of the Sand Bar restaurant in Brielle in June 2013. Cataldo fled the scene and was arrested later that day at his home after an eight-hour standoff.
Griffin survived but still suffers from injuries after surgery for a gunshot wound to her back. She alleges in a lawsuit against Cataldo and the restaurant that he had been drinking heavily.
The 64-year-old was an Essex County sheriff's officer from 1972 until 1989.
He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
