Husband Shoots Wife in Back Inside Pennsylvania Home Then Turns Gun on Self: Police

Officers investigated an attempted murder-suicide in eastern Pennsylvania, said police.

It happened around 9 p.m. Saturday at a West Penn Township home, located about 67 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Police and emergency responders found a husband and wife suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officials said the couple was treated on scene and taken to a landing zone where they were flown to area hospitals.

West Penn Township Police Chief Brian Johnson tells The (Pottsville) Republican-Herald that 53-year-old Michael Mindock III shot his wife in the back and then allegedly put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

Johnson said Mindock's wife, 56-year-old Brigette Mindock, was released Sunday from Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. Michael Mindock remained hospitalized.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Johnson. No charges have been filed.
