A New Jersey court has ruled that police don't have to hand over to the public video and audio recordings that were made during a chase of a suspect that ended with officers fatally shooting him.
An appeals court made the ruling Thursday.
North Jersey Media Group, which owns The Record and other newspapers, was requesting records related to the pursuit of Kashad Ashford, who was killed on Sept. 16, 2014 in Lyndhurst.
The appellate panel says that the audio and video recordings in this case are exempt from the state's public records law.
Just last week, another New Jersey judge had ordered police to hand over police video from another incident.
As police use video to record more, there are more questions about how it should be treated.
