State police say an Ohio man has drowned after falling into a central Pennsylvania river while walking on a railroad bridge to a nearby camp.
Fifty-three-year-old Michael Tarbet's body was found about seven miles downstream of where he fell into the Driftwood Branch of the Susquehanna River on Saturday morning. That happened in Gibson Township, Cameron County, about 145 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
Sinnemahoning Volunteer Fire Chief Jeff Oiler says the Alliance, Ohio man may have been partially blind and had mobility issues.
The man's friends drove to a main road looking for help and were able to flag down a state trooper about 10 minutes after Tarbet fell into the river.
A water rescue team happened to be stationed at the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in Sinnemahoning State Park because of a canoe and kayak race.
