A northeastern Pennsylvania jury has found a man guilty of the fatal stabbing of another man in a vacant lot after a night of drinking.
The Lackawanna County jury deliberated for about an hour Thursday before convicting 38-year-old Joseph Cedeno of Carbondale on charges of first- and third-degree murder.
He was immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors said Cedeno killed 28-year-old Dennis Doherty in September 2012. The two had just left the home of Cedeno's mother after a night of drinking.
He said Cedeno then went back to the home, washed a knife and told relatives that he had killed Doherty.
Defense attorney Curt Parkins claimed Cedeno had been drinking and wasn't making sense and there was no blood on his clothes.
