32-Year-Old Man Collapses and Dies After 10 Mile Race

An autopsy is set on the body of a man who collapsed near the finish line of the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler race.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office says the victim is 32-year-old Michael Kovacic, of Cranberry Township. That's a suburb about 20 miles north of the city.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center provided medical services and says paramedics treated 23 runners at the race.

Kovacic was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital where he died a short time later. UPMC spokesman Rick Pietzek says paramedics and doctors began treating Kovacic within minutes but could not save him.

The autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
