Local Bakery Blesses New Addition

Conshohocken Italian Bakery follows family tradtion and blesses new and improved oven.

The Conshohocken Italian Bakery is welcoming a new member to its kitchen with a blessing.

A newly installed Alitech thermal tunnel oven will be blessed in a customary ceremony at the popular bakery located at 79 Jones Street on Dec. 6.  His Reverend Father Gasper A. Genuardi of SS Comas & Damian Church will officiate the ritual.

This unique blessing ritual began in 1987 with the installation of the bakery’s first Thermotun oven.
“It was our first purchase of an oven of this magnitude,” said the bakery’s Business Administrator Tina Gambone.  “It was a huge undertaking.  Being of Italian descent, it was important to both partners to have this sacred ritual performed to bring God’s spirit and protect the oven from misfortune.”

Twenty-five years after the first oven blessing, Conshohocken Italian Bakery is keeping with tradition; this time blessing a new and improved oven which is more efficient than its predecessor and will increase production of the popular Italian breads.

Some may ask why go through such a unique ritual for a cooking appliance.  But for Gambone, it’s simple.

“Conshohocken Italian Bakery is a family owned business which has been around for nearly 40 years.  We are very involved with our community and it is important for us to keep our family traditions and faith intact.  We have been blessed to be part of such a giving community.”

Domenico Gambone and Frank Manze founded Conshohocken Italian Bakery back in 1973 and it has been providing fresh Italian breads and other products ever since.
