Kayaker Dies After Capsizing in Frigid Pennsylvania River

A kayaker has died after his boat overturned near Pittsburgh and left him stranded in the frigid Monongahela River for about 20 minutes.

Police say 46-year-old Ronald Vahosky was reaching for something when his kayak overturned Thursday and became lodged underneath a coal barge in Braddock.

Officials say first responders performed CPR and Vahosky had a pulse when he was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian.

Vahosky was from Munhall, about six miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Police are investigating.
