Woman Drags Officer, Leads Police on Brief Interstate 95 Pursuit, Police Say

Officers suffers a knee injury after being dragged while trying to stop a suspected intoxicated driver

An officer was briefly dragged, leading to a pursuit that caused the temporary closure of northbound Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia Friday. a woman is suspected of drugged driving in the incident.

The incident began with a traffic stop near the Bridge Street Interchange around 10:45 a.m. A Philadelphia police officer pulled over a woman after seeing her weave in and out of traffic.

As the officer approached the car, he noticed the driver appeared to be on narcotics, police said. The woman told the officer she had no information then she sped off, dragging him for five to 10 feet, investigators said.

The officer suffered a knee injury that required treatment at a nearby hospital.

Police caught up to the woman and stopped her around the Academy Road Exit, police said. More than a half dozen police vehicles could be seen surrounding a car on the side of the highway and in the outer lane, causing a long backup as only a lane or two got by approaching Woodhaven Road.

The woman could be seen being walked into a police van. The unidentified driver is expected to face DUI and related charges, police said.
