ATF Investigating Blaze That Destroyed Auto Body Shop and Warehouse

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating a large fire that gutted an auto body shop and warehouse late Friday.

City Salvage located along the 1600 block of Foulkrod Street in the Frankford section of Philadelphia burned to the ground after a fire started inside around 7:30 p.m. Friday, fire officials said. Several race cars stored in the business' warehouse were destroyed, according to witnesses.

The blaze grew to two-alarms before it was brought under control. No one was hurt and two dogs were able to escape without harm.

Fire officials credited a neighbor with helping firefighters get a jump on the blaze. A man ran to a fire house on Foulkrod Street for help.

The smoldering ruins reignited three times overnight, a source at the scene tells NBC10. The most recent fire began around 5:30 a.m. NBC10 spotted the growing flames and contacted emergency officials.

ATF agents did not comment about what may have caused started the fire. The fire marshal and crews from the city's Department of License & Inspections were on scene as well.
