Explosion Hospitalizes 3 in Montgomery Co.

Authorities say fire pit tipped over, igniting gas can

Three people have been hospitalized after an explosion Friday night in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County.

Investigators say that an outdoor fire pit at 2711 Broadway Avenue tipped over just before 11 p.m.  and ignited a nearby gas can, which in turn exploded.

Authorities say that the three victims all suffered serious burns in the explosion. Two of the victims were taken by ambulance to Abington Memorial Hospital, while the third was airlifted to Temple University Hospital. No identifying information was immediately available and the extent of the victims' injuries is not yet known.
