Ex-Scout Leader Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Pornography

A former Boy Scout leader has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography over the Internet.

Gerrett Conover was sentenced in Camden on Thursday. He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child porn. A 13-count indictment unsealed in 2013 had also charged him with sexual exploitation of children.

The 50-year-old resident of Woolwich Township in Gloucester County was arrested in 2012 while crossing the Canadian border into New York.

Homeland Security investigators had previously identified Conover through Internet chat rooms and file sharing sites.

A criminal complaint described numerous images of child porn found on Conover's computers, some depicting graphic sexual acts involving young boys.

Pictures of Conover in a Scout uniform and accompanying boys on scouting trips also were found.
