Ex-Municipal Worker Sentenced

A former municipal worker in Wilmington has been sentenced to 30 days in prison for embezzling $31,000.
 
Donnae S. Park, who worked in the city finance department, also faces six months of home confinement and was ordered to pay full restitution.
 
The News-Journal of Wilmington reports that the 38-year-old Park apologized at her sentencing Friday. Her lawyer asked for leniency, arguing that most of the money Park embezzled was used to pay rent on her home and that one of her children suffers from a rare liver disorder that may require a transplant.
 
In deciding that jail time was required, the judge said the theft occurred over a period of time and involved a substantial amount of money.
 
The sentence will start after the Christmas holiday.
