A teenage boy turned himself in to face charges that he killed a fellow teen.
Jerome Ford, 14, is accused of gunning down 13-year-old Angel Mercado-Santiago near a school in Atlantic City on Wednesday.
Ford turned himself in at his lawyer's office and has been placed in a juvenile detention center. He is charged with murder.
Santiago, a seventh-grade student, had left Pennsylvania Avenue School when there was an altercation. Authorities say Ford shot the boy in the chest and abdomen. A 15-year-old was also wounded in the leg.
Witnesses say they spotted someone on a bike pull out a gun and open fire following an argument.
Ford's lawyer, Joseph Swift, tells The Press of Atlantic City after a complete investigation, it will be clear it was not murder.
Local religious and civic leaders held an anti-violence rally at 5 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church on N Pennsylvania Avenue, across the street from where Santiago was killed.
