Surveillance Video Leads to Playground Vandalism Arrest

Surveillance video helped Philadelphia Police find the man they say vandalized a park named after an officer who died in the line of duty.

Nicholas Holland, 19, was arrested Tuesday night at his home.

Holland is accused of painting graffiti on playground equipment at Daniel Boyle Playground in the city's Somerton neighborhood. The vandalism occurred on Sept. 14. when police say Holland broke into a shed at the park and used the paint he found to vandalize the grounds.

Investigators recovered surveillance video of the incident and used social media to help develop their case.

Officer Boyle was murdered during a traffic stop in 1991.

The park, located on Kelvin Avenue, was dedicated two years ago.

Holland faces charges of criminal conspiracy, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, institutional vandalism, and related offenses.
