Cockfighting Ring Busted: Officials

Dozens of roosters and hens were confiscated by the Pennsylvania SPCA Monday from what officials believed to be a cockfighting ring in North Philadelphia.

About 40 of the birds were taken from a garage near Marshall and Indiana Streets.

The property owner, Jose Rivera, denied the charges claiming he was using the birds to make soup.

Some of the birds were dressed to fight with their waddles and combs cut off, PSPCA officials said.

A fighting ring and fight paraphernalia was found in the garage, as well, according to the agents.
