That old refrigerator sitting in the garage or basement may be worth some 'cool' cash.
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is offering a $1,000 reward to the owner of the state's oldest refrigerator or freezer recycled through Sept. 30.
The agency announced Friday that the owner of the oldest appliance recycled will receive a $1,000 gift card good toward Energy Star products at New Jersey Sears stores.
To enter, owners must sign up to have their appliance recycled through the BPU's N.J. Clean Energy Program. The program offers a $50 incentive for doing so.
The agency says owners of old refrigerators can save up to $150 a year in energy costs by choosing to recycle.
