Nephew Faces Charges in Stabbing Death of Conshohocken Woman

A woman was found dead in her home Friday in Conshohocken with stab wounds and Montgomery County detectives are handling the investigation, a county spokeswoman said.

The victim, Catherine Wanamaker, 60, was stabbed about 40 times inside a house on Hallowell Street near Ninth Avenue, the Montgomery County District Attorney's office said.

Her nephew, Matthew Wertz, 28, allegedly admitted to killing the woman, according to the criminal complaint.

"I did it, I was not in my right frame of mind when I did it," the complaint quoted Wertz as allegedly telling homicide detectives.

The suspect's mother, according to the complaint, said her son gets angry and acts out when "he needs drugs or wants to get drugs."

He is being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge.
