Teens Pass Out Flowers in Apology for Mobs

Classmates of students charged with assault in recent mobs passed out flowers and apology notes to pedestrians Monday

Students whose classmates are charged with assaulting a pedestrian in a downtown Philadelphia neighborhood are trying to make amends to commuters.

KYW-AM reports the students from Mastery Charter High School in the city's Old City neighborhood handed out notes of apology and white carnations to pedestrians on Monday.

Three of their fellow students face charges after investigators say they were caught on surveillance video assaulting a passer-by near the school on July 29. The teens turned themselves in.

Police and city officials have been struggling with a surge in youth violence in recent weeks. The same day as the Old City attack, police say another group of young people injured several others in a separate incident.

City officials have begun enforcing a curfew downtown to curb the violence.
