Chester County Driver Loses Job After Leaving Child, 7, in Parked School Van for 5 Hours

Authorities in southeastern Pennsylvania said a 7-year-old child was left alone in a parked school van for more than five hours last week.

The Kennett Consolidated School District in Chester County said the child was left behind in the vehicle in a lot in Kennett Square on March 31.

Officials said the child's mother called the school district more than five hours later, and the child was found unharmed.

Superintendent Barry Tomasetti said in a letter to parents Tuesday that "words cannot express our level of dismay and disgust."

Krapf Bus Co. said the driver was terminated that day for violating rules regarding him to check the bus for passengers.

Tomasetti said the company had been told to reinstruct all operators on their responsibilities for children.
