Reward Offered for Delco Pumpkin Chuckers

A $500 reward is being offered for the person or persons responsible for launching a pumpkin at a passing car, injuring the driver.

Nether Providence police are looking for the person or persons responsible for throwing a pumpkin at a car traveling in the opposite direction, injuring the driver โ€“ and the family of the victim is willing to pay $500 for information leading to the arrest of the guilty party.

Police say that on Dec. 1 around 11:30 p.m., a 29-year-old man was driving on Baltimore Pike toward Media, Delaware County, when someone in a car traveling at high speed threw a pumpkin at his vehicle causing him to be temporarily blinded and causing damage to his retina, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.

โ€œThe pumpkin came through [the windshield] with such force that it hit him in the face and damaged his retina,โ€ relative Paul Mulholland told the Daily Times.

Authorities tell the paper that force of the pumpkin caused the windshield to break. They say not only did the pumpkin hit the victim in the face, it also sent shards of glass into his eyes.

Luckily, the victim was able to pull over. He was helped by a passerby who saw him, blind, in the middle of the busy road, according to the Delco Times.

โ€œHe was injured pretty badly,โ€ Detective Michael E. Erickson told the Times. โ€œWeโ€™re talking about a virtual missile going through someoneโ€™s windshield.โ€

Police also believe that the same suspect/s in the Media incident are responsible for damaging parked cars with pumpkins in three nearby neighborhoods. They speculate that the โ€œweaponsโ€ were stolen from Linvilla Orchards.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on the crimes to contact police.
