Man Arrested in Shooting of 4-Year-old Girl by Stray Bullet

Police say the girl was shot in the head by a stray bullet as she stood next to a Christmas tree inside her family's apartment.

Police in Delaware have arrested a man they say shot and wounded a 4-year-old girl during a fight at a Milford apartment complex.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports 36-year-old Derrick Morris, of Lincoln, surrendered to Milford police Thursday. The charges against him are unclear.

Police say the girl was shot in the head Sunday by a stray bullet as she stood next to a Christmas tree inside her family's apartment. She was hospitalized and survived.

Police say investigators believe a fight in the apartment complex's courtyard led to the gunshot that wounded the girl. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the girl or others involved in the shooting.

It's unclear if Morris has a lawyer who can comment on his behalf.
