Buono to Visit Shore-Area's ‘Tent City'

The Democrat running for governor is taking her campaign to a homeless encampment near the Jersey shore.

Sen. Barbara Buono is set to visit Lakewood's tent city on Thursday afternoon.

Buono spokesman David Turner says the tour will highlight the stories of people who have fallen through the cracks and how Gov. Chris Christie has ignored them during his first term.

Residents of the encampment in the woods have agreed with government officials on a plan to close down the camp after its 80 residents find homes.

The April agreement ended a seven-year dispute between people living in about 100 tents and Lakewood's government.

New occupants have been prohibited from setting up camp since the pact was signed.
