Pennsylvania Crashes Claim 2 Lives

Two women have been killed in separate crashes in western Pennsylvania.

Police say 70-year-old Carol Lee Sells was struck by a car around 7:30 a.m. Thursday while crossing a street in Apollo, about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say 56-year-old Mary Ann Shaffer lost control of her minivan on ice and crashed head on into a tractor-trailer around 10 a.m. in Kittanning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kittanning is about 44 miles northeast of Pittsburgh and 19 miles north of Armstrong.
