Girl, 16, Leads Police on High-Speed Chase

Police say a New Jersey girl who took her parents' SUV led officers on a chase that reached 100 mph before she ran out of gas.

Police say the chase began when the 16-year-old went through a red light in Manchester Township early Tuesday.

Police Capt. Lisa Parker tells The Star-Ledger of Newark the girl lost control and crashed into the woods during the pursuit. But the vehicle emerged and the chase slowed down to 25 mph.

The chase ended when the vehicle apparently ran out of gas.

Parker says the girl is charged with eluding, joyriding and has been issued several motor vehicle summonses.

The girl's parents said they didn't know their daughter had taken the car.
