Driver Rams Cop Car, Flees Scene: Police

Officer suffers minor injuries, expected to be OK after apparent hit-and-run during police chase

A Philadelphia Police officer suffered minor injuries in a hit-and-run crash that happened while he was pursuing a suspected stolen vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday, according to investigators.

The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. on the 3600 block of Welsh Road in Northeast Philadelphia.

The 8th District officer was expected to be OK, police said.

This is what police say happened: The officer was pursuing a suspected stolen black Jeep on Welsh Road when suddenly a white Jeep rammed the cop car. The drivers of both Jeeps took off on Welsh Road towards Pennypack Park before jumping out of the vehicles and fleeing on foot.

Police began a search including K-9 officers and eventually apprehended both suspects at Holme Avenue & Arthur Streets.

No word yet on possible charges.
