UDel's Meissner Pulls Out of U.S. Championships

Injury forces 2006 world champ out of nationals

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Former figure skating world champ Kimmie Meissner is out of this week's U.S. Figure Skating Championships because of a hip flexor injury.

Meissner withdrew Monday, saying she is still feeling pain when she jumps. She hurt herself sprinting on a treadmill about a week ago and aggravated the injury during training.

In a statement from U.S. Figure Skating Meissner said that she is "very disappointed" about not competing in Cleveland.

The 19-year-old attends the University of Delaware part time and trains in the Newark area.

Meissner was the surprise winner at the 2006 World Championships, and won her first U.S. title the following year. She has struggled since, finishing seventh at last year's nationals.
