The Eagles downward projection seemed to get even more dramatic Wednesday afternoon when the team announced that starting right tackle Todd Herremans was lost for the rest of the season.
Herremans suffered several fractures in his right foot and was placed on Injured Reserve.
Herremans fractured the cuboid bone in his right foot, had three other fractures and ligament damage after landing awkwardly in the first quarter in New Orleans. Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder called it a "rare injury in athletics."
The injury occurred during the first quarter of the Eagles' loss Monday night in New Orleans.
Herremans played in all but five Eagles games -- starting 95 on the offensive line -- dating back to 2006.
The eight-year Eagles veteran was in charge of protecting left-handed QB Michael Vick’s blind side. He is the fourth Eagles starting offensive lineman lost -- center Jason Kelce (knee) and left tackle Jason Peters (Achilles) were already lost for the season and guard Danny Watkins has been battling a chronic ankle issue.
G Julian Vandervelde moves up from the Practice Squad to take Herremans’ roster spot while DT Frank Trotter take Vandervelde’s spot on the Practice Squad. King Dunlap moves to the right side -- swapping spots with Demetress Bell -- to take Herremans' spot with rookie Dennis Kelly ready to step in if Dunlap gets hurt, according to CSNPhilly.com.
