City Worker Shot on the Job

Woman works for the Water Department

A city worker was shot on the job Monday morning, according to police. The woman, 55, works for Philadelphia's Water Department. She was out on a street-digging job in North Philadelphia and was shot in the foot.

It happened about 11 a.m. in the 700 block of West Huntington Street, according to police. The woman was hit when a man suddenly opened fire.

"She was calm," said sanitation worker Jonathan Perry. He had just passed the woman when the shots rang out. "The neighbors came to help her out. They tied her leg up to stop the bleeding till the paramedics came."

Police do not think she was the intended target, but they also do not have any reports of a second shooter.

"It was scary because we just passed her and it could have been me…we don't know who the guy was shooting at."

The victim was in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.
